Martin Angell - Composer
Martin Angell's compositions for strings show his deep knowledge of the instruments. His solo cello pieces display originality of musical thought. Many of them are strongly evocative sound-pictures of the Black Forest Landscapes and seasons, painted with a wide variety of playing techniques. The "Ibach Suite No 1" and "Five Pieces for Solo Violoncello" (Moon, Rhythmus, Romance & Allegro, I-Bach Prelude, and Sarabande) are published by Da Capo Music Ltd.
Other solo cello compositions are available as private publications. Please take a look at the music shop page where there are some free downloads - some complete pieces and some samples.
Music for cello ensemble & string orchestra
His pieces for elementary cello ensembles and amateur string orchestras draw on his long experience of teaching in England. They have been performed in both East Sussex and West Sussex, and are now also being taken up in Germany. They are catchy, accessible, and enjoyably challenging to play.
Private publication. Please take a look at the music shop page where there are some free downloads - some complete pieces and some samples.
Four of Martin Angell's short fun pieces for junior string orchestra are now published by Chichester Music Press under the collective title "Apple pie and custard". Take a look at them here.
Music for practice and examinations
He is currently composing a large collection of short elementary pieces for cello and piano, intended for use in the early grades of practical music exams.
